Ingo Kruck

Extreme Trailrunner

Ingo had been coaching professional athletes and supplying them with equipment for years until he was asked by one of Germany's best-known ultra trail runners to run himself and not just watch. No sooner said than done. With 15 years of cycling experience on MTB/road bikes and over 20,000 annual kilometers, he switched to trail running shoes in 2022 at the age of 51 and almost started all over again. “Almost” because he actually started his sporting career as a teenager with a 50K ultra and only ran a few marathons as an adult - but not sustainably. He cemented his love for biking at the age of 21 on a solo expedition in Iceland over 6 weeks and 2600 kilometers. There he learned to improvise, to deal with the elements and to accept solitude and silence as a gift. Things that still accompany him today and help him in ultra trail running.

After a few test races such as the Mountainman Cup (2nd place overall) and a mountain ultra in southern Sweden (9th place overall), he was drawn to the Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum, where he completed 226 km in five days at the Ultra X Jordan and surprisingly finished 15th overall in an international field. Still on the plane back, he made plans for the next race, the UTMB-Ultra Kullamannen over 104 kilometers in the Swedish winter months. With a 6th place in the age group, the result did not turn out as planned and although he swore at the finish that he would never run the 100-mile distance (160 km) in this race, he registered for this very race in November 2025 just a few days later.
With several projects such as running rivers from source to mouth, the Goggins Challenge over 48 hours in winter and a whole series of ultras, he then planned a record attempt (FKT), for which he was able to win over our team athlete Lord Jens Kramer as a partner: the Gröna Bandet FKT over more than 1300 kilometers in the Swedish-Norwegian Skanden Mountains. By beating the current record of 21 days 7 hours and 38 minutes, Ingo's thirst for adventure has reached completely new dimensions, which is also attracting media interest from running and adventure magazines, newspapers, podcasters and radio stations.
Ingo about himself: "I'm attracted by things that go beyond my capabilities and I've learned that meticulous planning and preparation for expeditions and races helps prevent many problems and pain. When it comes to equipment, “good” is not good enough. Test, test, test! This has been true for years for equipment for cycling races and now also for trail running equipment. For me, running shoes are extremely important as a point of contact between man and nature. Studying biomechanics and kinetics helps me to understand relationships, avoid injuries and run better. Joe Nimble's running shoes have proven to be an enormous benefit for me and so I not only run successfully in them, but now also work for the brand that has changed my running."
Where will Ingo's journey take him after the Gröna Bandet FKT and the Kullamannen by UTMB 100 Miles in 2026? We don't know, but it will probably be adventurous again and the integration of a race gravel bike into his training suggests that perhaps an off-road adventure as a combination of trail running and gravel biking could follow ...
